'NL mobile telephony sales hit EUR 340 mln in Q3 - Gfk Temax'Nov 23, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Mobile telephony sales in the Netherlands rose only 0.1 percent to EUR 340 million in the third quarter compared to the year before, despite smartphones sales almost doubling in volume, the latest Gfk Temax (Technical Market Index) report showed. One out of six handsets was shown to be a smartphone in Q3, with the figure expected to rise to one out of five in 2010. The mobile sales revenue figure was depressed however by falls in traditional mobile phone sales, down 24 percent compared to the year before to reach a total market worth at EUR 168 million. The decline is attributed to lower subsidies in the prepaid segment. Current technological developments have especially hit fixed telephones and fax machines. Sales for these devices were down 15 percent and 26.8 percent respectively. Mobile computers sales growth slid 2 percent in the third quarter against the year before against the backdrop of a declining market consumer electronics, which fell 15 percent in Q3.
