[November 22, 2009] Fujitsu's Flashwave 7120 Wavelength Services Access Platform to be Deployed at SC09 Tweet Nov 18, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Fujitsu Network Communications, a supplier of business, information technology, and communications solutions, announced that its Flashwave 7120 wavelength services access platform will be deployed to support the SCinet Wide Area Network (WAN) at the upcoming SC09 conference. SCinet is built each year during the SC conference by university, government, and industry volunteers to highlight platforms in high-performance computing (HPC), networking, storage and analysis, Fujitsu said. Two Flashwave 7120 nodes will be located at local Oregon Points of Presence (POPs) to transmit data to the SCinet WAN network at the Oregon Convention Center. A third node will be on display in the SCinet Network Operations Center (NOC) carrying traffic back to the convention center. "As both an equipment supplier and research entity, Fujitsu is astutely aware that bandwidth requirements in the research and education sector continue to escalate," said Stephen Carlton, VP of planning and product management at Fujitsu Network Communications. "To simulate real-world conditions, the SCinet WAN that is being constructed at this year's conference will run at 300 Gbps. The Flashwave 7120 platforms we are contributing to SCinet offer a compact solution capable of delivering bandwidth and functionality that is ideal for the research and education segment." According to Fujitsu, the Flashwave 7120 system is a combination access WDM and intelligent edge service delivery platform. The system's high density, compact size, and low power consumption make it ideal for simultaneously solving bandwidth and fiber constraints and delivering managed services and wavelengths to enterprise locations, including research centers, university buildings, and healthcare providers. SC09, sponsored by ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and the IEEE Computer Society, offers a technical education program and exhibition to showcase the ways high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis lead to advances in scientific discovery, research, education and commerce.
