Prior to his involvement with DirecTV, Cox served as corporate counsel for Science Applications International from July 1992 to January 1995, where his primary responsibilities included acquisitions and divestitures, strategic alliances and joint ventures. Before joining SAIC, Cox was an associate with the law firm of Gray, Cary, Ames and Frye from 1990 to 1992 and Latham & Watkins from 1988 to 1990.

More recently, Cox served as Executive VP and Director of HD Partners Acquisition, which in June 2006 raised $150 million to pursue an acquisition in the media, entertainment or telecommunications industry.
