[November 21, 2009] BRIEF: Los Osos, Webb in polo finals Tweet Nov 21, 2009 (San Bernardino County Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- One team has never been to the finals before, another is back to defend its title. Both Webb and Los Osos will be battling in separate CIF-SS water polo finals at Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine today. Top-seeded Webb faces second-seeded Oxnard Rio Mesa in the Division 6 final at 10:30 a.m., followed by unseeded Los Osos facing second-seeded El Segundo in the Division 5 final at 11:30 a.m. Los Osos downed Fullerton Troy 9-7 in the D5 final last year, capturing the program's first CIF title, while Webb has never been to a water polo CIF final. "We haven't really talked about last year," Los Osos coach Eric Cypher said after his team's second-round win over Palm Desert. "This is a different year and a different team." But not so different that the team couldn't make it back to the CIF title game despite being unseeded. Los Osos defeated fourth-seeded Santa Monica 12-7 in the quarterfinals and then downed top-seeded Whittier La Serna 10-7 in the semifinals. Webb won its first two playoff games in routs, 19-4 and 18-10, but it took overtime to defeat unseeded Glendale 18-14 in the semifinals.
