China's telecom sector sees 13.7 pct growth in business volume, Jan-OctBEIJING, Nov 20, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- China's telecommunications sector achieved a business volume of 2.11 trillion yuan in the first 10 months of this year, up 13.7 percent from the same period of last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Friday. The sector's main operating turnover in the ten months edged up 3.4 percent from the year earlier period to 698.91 billion yuan. By the end of October, China's telephone user population counted 1.05 billion, grown 69.31 million during the January to October period. Fixed-line phone users fell by 18.98 million, while cell phone users increased by 88.29 million to stand at 729.54 million. Subscribers to broad-band internet services increased 18.01 million to 100.89 million, while internet dial-up subscribers decreased 3.34 million. During the 10 months, mobile telecom revenue and data communication revenue respectively increased 12.4 percent and 0.5 percent year on year. In contrast, telephones long-distance and local call revenues fell 6.9 percent and 13.1 percent, respectively, with their contributions to the telecom sector's main operating revenue receded 1.29 percentage points and 3.15 percentage points. |
