'Free launches TV-based video game service'

Nov 20, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- French ISP Free has launched a video game service for subscribers equipped with a Freebox HD set-top box. Games accessible over the IPTV service are played using the remote control. In-house developed games such as Minesweeper, Solitaire, Bomberbox and Snakebox can be enriched by emulated console games. Users can download the emulated games from legal online downloading platforms and copy them on the Freebox HD's hard drive via FTP or on a USB key connected to the set-top box. An SDK and tutorials are available at http://elixir.freebox.fr for people who want to develop new games for the community. An online store selling this type of application will open in early 2010.
