LEAD: N.Y. stocks fall on selling of high-tech issues+(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, Nov. 19_(Kyodo) _ (EDS: UPDATING WITH END OF TRADING) New York stocks fell Thursday as high-tech issues came under pressure with traders becoming uncertain about the future of the semiconductor industry. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which fell 11.11 points Wednesday, lost another 93.87 points to 10,332.44. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index, which dropped 10.64 points the previous day, shed another 36.32 points to 2,156.82. High tech issues drew heavy selling after a major U.S. financial institution lowered its investment assessment for major semiconductor maker Intel Corp. Investors also lost confidence in the global economy after stocks slumped in Asian and European markets earlier in the day, market analysts said. (c) 2009 Kyodo News International, Inc. |
