[November 19, 2009] USEFP kicks off international education week Tweet (Pakistan Press International Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) started celebration of the 10th International Education Week (IEW), here from November 16, which would continue to November 20, 2009. The week was kicked off by an exciting High Achievers’ Reception on November 16, 2009 at the USEFP office. Only the top ten students from fifteen schools across Karachi were invited to the reception to celebrate their academic accomplishments, meet with M.S Humayun, the Managing Director of Vibe Television and a graduate of The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and enjoy an elaborate exhibition of college materials. Humayun addressed the students and gave them valuable insights into the US Education system. On Wednesday, the USEFP hosted a dinner for counsellors from a variety of high schools in Karachi and made them aware of new workshops that will now be conducted by USEFFP to better equip counsellors and help them meet the needs of their students. USEFP will be concluding the IEW celebrations with a Fulbright dinner for alumni and other notable educators in Karachi. This event will welcome back recent Fulbright graduates and function as a terrific networking opportunity as graduates begin exploring employment opportunities in the country. The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan was established in 1950 by the governments of Pakistan and the United States. USEFP is guided by a bi-national commission composed of an equal number of Pakistanis and Americans, the Chairman alternating each year between a Pakistani and an American. USEFP is one of 51 “Fulbright Commissions†located throughout the world. Since 1951 when the first group of Pakistani grantees travelled to America, and 1952 when the first American grantees visited Pakistan, the Foundation has fostered mutual understanding between the people of Pakistan and the United States through educational and cultural exchange. It is estimated that over 1000 Pakistanis have already had the opportunity to participate in this Program. The Foundation receives support and counsel from both the Pakistan and U.S. governments, but it is not an agency of either. The Foundation supervises a variety of programs that send Pakistani scholars to American campuses while bringing American scholars to universities in Pakistan.
