'Ziggo negotiating still with SBS, RTL over HD'Nov 19, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Dutch cable operator Ziggo is still negotiating with RTL and SBS on the transmission of HD channels. The operator wants to include HD content in its standard package, just like the public broadcasters and Eurosport HD, and wants to pay a one-time sum for investment costs. The television companies would rather charge for transmission. Ultimately, the content provider determines how it will pass the signal but a Ziggo spokesperson said he did not feel that viewers would accept a premium. On the other hand, cable operators want the HD signal in order to get a competitive edge over DVB-H and IPTV over DSL, though not at any price. The HD channels of RTL and SBS are not yet out. Only SBS channel Net5 offers part of its programming in HD (especially US series) and Caiway is the only operator which transmits the programming.
