[November 19, 2009] 'KPN supplies IP-network for emergency govt communication' Tweet Nov 19, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Dutch operator KPN will supply the Dutch ministry of interior and of royal relations (BZK) with an emergency network for fixed telephony and data traffic. The network replaces the older Noodnet emergency network set up in 1991, and which only gave phone and fax support. The "Emergency Communications Supply NCV" is a fixed network, not to be confused with C2000, the national emergency services network. KPN signed a multi-year framework agreement worth an estimated EUR 6.5 million per year, equivalent to the cost of the previous, still running, agreement. NCV connects around 5,500 government, hospital and police station sites, but also company offices with a vital function, such as railways, utilities, and broadcasters. The entire network is equipped with a battery back up so that it can continue to operate should there be a power failure.
