NBN a ploy to break up Telstra: AAPT

Nov 18, 2009 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Criticism of the national broadband network (NBN) planned by the Australian Government has been voiced by Paul Broad, CEO of telco AAPT. He noted that rather than fibre optics cabling as proposed for the $A3bn project, the future for high-speed internet access was wireless technology. Broad alleged that the NBN was used as a pretext by the Government to force structural separation on dominant provider Telstra. AAPT may sell some of its own cable assets into the NBN, but does not want to take any holding in it in return.
