Emulex launches new ExpressModule HBA for Sun blade family of servers

Nov 18, 2009 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Emulex has announced the availability of a new combined 8Gb/s fiber channel and 1Gb/s Ethernet ExpressModule host bus adapter for the Sun Blade 6000 modular system.

Emulex has said that its multi-protocol ExpressModule host bus adapter (HBA) leverages Sun's modular architecture to provide hot-pluggable SAN expandability, which eliminates disruption to ongoing blade activities during installation, reconfiguration and removal.

Further, Emulex ExpressModule HBAs are external to each blade server, thus reducing the impact of thermal and power requirements on the blade server.

Available for use with Sun Blade 6000 systems, Emulex multi-protocol ExpressModule HBAs are compatible with standard Emulex 4Gb/s and 8Gb/s fiber channel LightPulse HBAs, which are interoperable with Linux, the Solaris operating system, VMware and Windows platforms.

Jason Schaffer, senior director of storage marketing at Sun Microsystems, said: "The Sun Blade 6000 family is ideal for consolidating and virtualizing a wide variety of applications from the web to the back office on blades. We continually look to provide the most advanced enterprise-class solutions for our customers to meet the needs of the evolving data center." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
