VON Bags AIB Award


(AllAfrica.com Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Voice of Nigeria (VON) has won this year's global media excellence award, organised by the Association of International Broadcasting.

The association, while disclosing this in London, U.K, said the awards was in recognition of creativity and innovation in global broadcasting across television, radio, cross-media, marketing and technology.

The Special Assistant to Director General of VON, AbdusSalam A. AbdurRazaq in a press statement made available to Daily Champion, said "since the inception of the AIB awards, African countries have never been nominated for the prestigious award. However, this year, Nigeria and Ghana broke the jinx.

Continuing, AbdurRazaq, revealed that out of over two hundred entries from broadcasters as well as production companies for this year's award, only Christy Chukwuemeka-Joseph and Sola Solanke of VON were short-listed to join a host of other broadcasters across the world to be honoured for their relevance and creativity in radio production.

While Chukwuemeka-Joseph clinched the prize for his Kiddies radio programme 'Africa Fit for the Child', in the most creative specialist genre category, Sola Solanke was honoured for his creativity in the most creative radio feature category.


Other categories covered by the 'AIBs' include separate awards for radio and television, in current affairs, coverage of a single news event, creative features and personality of the year as well as awards for innovation in marketing, use of technology and cross-media productions.

The awards event, which attracted senior executives, producers and journalists from media organization around the world, was fully sponsored by Bloomberg TV.

As part of the association's tradition of maintaining excellence and credibility, judges with vast range of experience in different aspects of broadcasting were drawn from all over the world to preside over the nomination.

While commending the VON staff for their success at the award, the management of VON promised to sustain the enabling environment for creativity through motivation, rewards, training and provision of modern and appropriate working equipment.
