[November 18, 2009] Motorola, Huawei to Build World's 1st TD-LTE Trial Network Tweet SHANGHAI, Nov 18, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China Mobile Ltd. (NYSE: CHL and SEHK: 0941) has appointed Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) to establish an indoor TD-LTE network for the World Expo 2010 to be held in Shanghai, Mohammad Akhtar, an executive of the US conglomerate, said lately. The Chinese telecoms equipment provider Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. announced days ago that it had won the order for the TD-LTE trial network's outdoor part, signaling that other telecoms equipment giants like Nokia Siemens Networks and Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) have lost the bid, according to insiders. Upon China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou, the TD-LTE network will cover a land area of 5.28 square kilometers in the Shanghai World Expo park, where some of the needed base stations have been built with a maximum downloading speed of 29Mbps. By far, 42 telecoms operators in 21 countries have planned to establish their LTE networks, said Craig Ehrlich, the former chairman of the GSM Association, adding that China Mobile has decided to apply the LTE TDD technology, different from the LTE FDD technology chosen by other companies like Verizon Wireless Inc. and Telenor ASA (OTC: TELNY).
