(Nasdaq: SPRD) reaped total revenue of USD 38.4 million for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009, higher than previous expectations of USD 31 million to USD 36 million, the Shanghai-based wireless baseband chipset provider announced in its unaudited financial results on November 16. The number was up 137% quarter over quarter and 92% year over year. Gross profit was USD 15.0 million, rocketing 292% quarter over quarter and rising 71% year over year. Gross margin was 39.0%, compared with 23.6% in the second quarter and 43.7% in the third quarter of 2008. GAAP net income was USD 600,000, compared with USD 13.1 million net loss in the second quarter and USD 31.3 million net loss in the third quarter of 2008.
