'France to reveal national broadband plan next month - report'Nov 17, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- The French government plans to announce a plan for the roll out of a national very high-speed fibre network in mid-December, reports La Tribune. As proposed by telecommunications regulator Arcep, operators are likely to be allowed to deploy their own networks in big cities. In less densely populated areas, infrastructure rollouts would be put up for tender, with the winners to benefit from state aid from the country's economic stimulus fund. The government seems to favour France Telecom's position over that of alternative operators. The latter stated a preference for the creation of a joint venture to operate a shared fibre network.
