Electronic Arts acquires Playfish


Nov 13, 2009 (Datamonitor Financial Deals Tracker via COMTEX) -- Electronic Arts, Inc. has acquired Playfish Limited, a UK-based creator of social network games, for approximately $275 million in cash and approximately $25 million in equity retention arrangements.

Electronic Arts is a US-based entertainment software company.

As part of the transaction, the vendors are also entitled to additional variable cash consideration, up to a maximum of $100 million, contingent upon the achievement of certain performance milestones through December 31, 2011. Following the transaction, Playfish will operate within EA Interactive, a division of Electronic Arts focused on the web and on wireless.


Announcement (October 14, 2009): According to Yahoo, Electronic Arts has agreed to acquire Playfish for $250 million.

Earlier, Playfish had raised venture capital funding from Accel Partners and Index Ventures.
