[November 13, 2009] Agencies set up ways to help out Whatcom Middle School students Tweet Nov 13, 2009 (The Bellingham Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Since the Nov. 5 fire that severely damaged Whatcom Middle School, community members and organizations have been asking how they can help. Now there are several ways to donate your money or time to help students and staff at the school The biggest needs right now revolve around replacing school supplies for low-income students, athletic equipment, musical instruments, playground equipment and teacher classroom supplies. People interested in donating money can choose one of these two options: Whatcom Middle School PTSA: Checks can be made out to the "WMSPTSA" and sent to 3014 Vallette St., Bellingham, WA 98225. Whatcom Community Foundation: The foundation is working with the Bellingham Public Schools Foundation to create a Whatcom Middle School fund. Donations, which are tax deductible, can be made by sending checks to 119 Grand Avenue, Suite A, Bellingham, WA 98225 or by using a credit or debit card online at whatcomcf.org. --The Whatcom PTSA is collecting names of people who are willing to volunteer as needed in a variety of ways. If you're interested, e-mail [email protected]. --On Wednesday, Nov. 18, Crazy Mike's Video at 1066 Lakeway Drive will donate all its sales that day (except for sales tax) to the Whatcom Middle School. The store offers rentals and sales of movies and games. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight that day. --GlobalMojo, a charitably focused Web browser, has created a special Whatcom Middle School-themed Internet browser that people can download and use to help generate revenue for the school. Through the end of 2009, anytime someone uses the Web browser to search, shop or plan travel, GlobalMojo will donate all revenue generated to the school. Click on globalmojo.com/whatcommiddleschool. --Donate to a school supply drive by e-mailing [email protected] for more information. --Donate books through Scholastic Online by going to www.scholastic.com/parentordering. Sign in with the username "Books4WMS" and password "booksforteachers." --Bellingham Barnes & Noble has started a book drive. People can purchase a book from a list of teacher-submitted requests or select books on their own to donate. --Launching Success Learning Store has started a "Wish List" for teachers that people can purchase items from. The store is located at 133 Prince St. in Bellingham. --Bake sale, Saturday, Nov. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Apple Yarns in Barkley Village. All proceeds from the bake sale will go to the Whatcom PTSA to help teachers replace books in their classrooms. Apple Yarns also will donate 10 percent of all sales on Saturday. --Village Books will feature lists of needed books that customers may purchase and donate to the school library.
