ZTE Wins GSM Contract in India


SHENZHEN, Nov 13, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- ZTE Telecom India Private Ltd. lately inked a GSM network infrastructure agreement with Unitech Wireless Ltd., disclosed ZTE Corporation (SEHK: 0763; SZSE: 000063), a globally leading provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions.

In the coming give years, ZTE Telecom India will provide GSM systems and core network equipment as well as services such as equipment installation, system upgrade, and technology support for Unitech Wireless, according to the latter's demand. Its services will cover local regions like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana.

Unitech Wireless is a joint venture between Unitech Group of India and Telenor Group, a Norway-headquartered mobile communications services provider across Europe and Asia. Telenor owns a 67.25% stake in Unitech Wireless. By the second quarter of 2009, Telenor had 168 million users around the world.


Since 2008, ZTE has won the favor of top-flight multinational carriers including Telenor, TeliaSonera, Telstra Corporation Ltd., SingTel Group, and Sistema in terms of innovation and delivery of GSM/UMTS products. The Chinese company has become a mainstream telecoms equipment supplier in India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Turkey.
