MYtv Taps Intelsat Capacity for DTH Ukraine LaunchNov 13, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Intelsat, a provider of fixed satellite services, announced that MYtv has chosen Intelsat for a multi-year capacity contract to deliver its MYtv DTH platform to subscribers throughout the Ukraine over the Thor 6 satellite located at 1 degrees W. Intelsat owns 10 transponders on Telenor Satellite Broadcasting's recently launched Thor 6 satellite, complementing the Intelsat 10-02 satellite also located at 1 degrees W. This orbital location hosts an attractive video neighborhood serving Central and Eastern Europe. MYtv will offer subscribers more than 80 channels of movies, music, sports, lifestyle, news and children's programming. The service will employ DVBS-2 MPEG-4 High Definition Hybrid Personal Video Recorder to receive both MYtv packages and hundreds of satellite FTA channels and offer additional services such as Push Video-on-Demand, Pay-per-View and interactive channels. "The 1 degrees W video neighborhood makes it easy for us to develop a strong subscriber base because it delivers excellent value in terms of its coverage and channel variety, providing us the ability to establish our business in this region over the long term," said Albert Feldman, General Director of MYtv. "Intelsat's leadership in supporting the growth of global DTH platforms was an important factor for us when we were choosing our partner for the MYtv DTH launch." "DTH programming continues to be a growth catalyst for satellite service providers and this contract further anchors the 1 degrees W neighborhood as the region's premier DTH distribution platform," said Jean-Philippe Gillet, Intelsat's Regional Vice President, Europe and Middle East. "We are committed to building the best value neighborhood in Central and Eastern Europe, and investing in capacity to support the growth objectives of our customers."
