Black dogs at adopt-athon
Nov 12, 2009 (Chattanooga Times Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The Humane Educational Society will do its part to fight "black dog syndrome" with an adopt-athon this weekend at PetSmart, 2130 Gunbarrel Road.
According to HES officials, big, black dogs often are the last to be adopted from animal shelters, a phenomenon known as black dog syndrome.
The Black Dog Adopt-athon will last from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Through November, the adoption fee for black dogs is $50. The fee includes sterilization, rabies shot, microchip and a health check.
HES also is seeking old blankets and towels to help its resident tail waggers and furry felines stay warm this winter. Donations may be dropped off at 212 N. Highland Park Ave. during shelter hours: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday; noon-4 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
