Comtech EF Data receives order for satellite modems

Nov 12, 2009 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Comtech Telecommunications has announced that its subsidiary, Comtech EF Data, has received a $1.2 million order for satellite modems. A mobile operator will deploy the modems to support satellite-based cellular backhaul in Africa.

The company has said that the order specified the CDM-625 advanced satellite modem, which is deemed ideal for cellular backhaul applications in regions where satellite bandwidth constraints exist.

The company has added that the CDM-625 advanced satellite modem combines revolutionary technologies, including DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression, low density parity check codes and the next-generation forward error correction, VersaFEC with adaptive coding and modulation.

Fred Kornberg, president and CEO of Comtech Telecommunications, said: "By utilizing Comtech's bandwidth-efficient technologies, operators can maximize satellite throughput without using additional transponder resources." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
