Asia-Pacific Region Q2 Optical Network Sales Rose 24%


SHENZHEN, Nov 12, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Optical network sales revenues in the Asia-Pacific Region increased 24% year on year in the second quarter of 2009, according to the latest report by research firm Ovum.

Spending on optical network in the Asia-Pacific Region reached USD 2.671 billion in the first half of 2009. The market size is forecasted to amount to USD 5.8 billion in the full year. Notably, the Chinese and Indian markets gained robust growths.

As for equipment manufacturers, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., ZTE Corporation (SZSE: 000063 and SEHK: 0763), Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU), as well as NEC ranked the top four in terms of sales revenues.

ZTE outpaced Alcatel-Lucent in the Asia-Pacific Region for the first time, with quarterly market share of 16.1%.


In addition, Optical network sales revenues in Europe, Middle East, and Africa continued declining in the second quarter of 2009, slumping to USD 4.84 billion from the peak of USD 5.5 billion in the third quarter of 2008.
