Inmarsat Named Large-Cap Business Of The Year At The National Business Awards(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London -- Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT), the world's leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, has been named The Coutts & Co Large-Cap Business of the Year at the National Business Awards 2009 in London. The company was unanimously judged by the panel to have demonstrated exceptional financial returns, strong growth, and innovation strategies. The ten finalists in the category included Pearson, Diageo, Morrisons and BSkyB. Inmarsat delivers voice and broadband communications via satellite to mobile users on land, sea and air. Since its introduction to the London Stock Exchange in June 2005, it is now a $1 billion revenue business. Inmarsat is currently the only provider of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety Service (GMDSS), which delivers essential safety communications for seafarers, and provides mission-critical applications to end users in locations beyond the reach of terrestrial telecoms networks. The National Business Awards, sponsored by Orange, are in their eighth year. Inmarsat, a member of the FTSE 100, was selected in the category of publicly-listed companies with a turn-over of GBP500m, in which over 150 companies were assessed. Collecting the award, Andrew Sukawaty, Chairman and CEO of Inmarsat, said: "This award recognises the strength and effort of the whole team at Inmarsat. More than 1,200 business leaders and their guests attended the awards ceremony, where the keynote speaker was Alistair Darling, the UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer. The Chancellor said of the National Business Awards: "It is the pinnacle of business award ceremonies and this is where Britain's best, from across the public and private sectors, get the recognition and reward they deserve." The award comes just days after Inmarsat was named Best Satellite Provider by the South Asia, Middle East and North Africa (SAMENA) Telecommunications Council. The SAMENA Awards recognise companies for their outstanding efforts in expanding telecoms services and addressing the concerns and needs of the sector in the region and beyond.
