China Q3 Active IM User Base Hit 626mn

BEIJING, Nov 09, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China achieved a registered IM account base of 1.777 billion in the third quarter of 2009, increasing 6.1% quarter on quarter and 21% year on year, according to a latest data report released by Analysys International, a Chinese Internet research firm.

The nation's IM active accounts rose 11% from a quarter ago and 35% from a year earlier to 626 million, citing the report.

Currently, most Chinese Internet users have two to four IM accounts, so, the aggregated registered IM account base and active IM account base all exceeded the nation's netizen number of 338 million, said Yu Yi, an analyst from Analysys International.

Furthermore, the IM market will see a new-round growth in the future, with the seamless connection of mobile IM and PC terminals. And it will accelerate the increase of the IM user base and users' viscosity, added Yu. Meanwhile, IM will further penetrate into the fields of the Social Networking Services (SNS) and online gaming, which will be an impetus to the IM growth.
