[November 06, 2009] 'Megafon abandons Synterra acquisition - report' Tweet (DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Russian mobile operator Megafon has not prolonged an agreement with shareholders of Russian operator Synterra on the exclusive right to acquire the company. The agreement expired in October and has not been renewed, said Vladimir Zhelonkin, the CEO of Megafon shareholder AF Holding. ComNews.ru reported that a source close to Megafon shareholder Altimo said the company had not received any information on extending the exclusive negotiations. Megafon was interested in buying the company to extend its backbone network and had reportedly started due diligence on Synterra earlier this year.
