'Hansenet does not comply to data retention law - report'

Nov 02, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Telecom Italia's German fixed network operator Hansenet is unable to fulfil a request by the regional police of Kiel, according to German magazine Wirtschaftswoche citing an internal memo of an investigator.

Hansenet is the only large ISP that continues to refuse to assist the authorities in criminal investigations as the ISP believes the data retention law to be unconstitutional, according to the memo. At the same time, it is public knowledge that Hansenet is facing liquidity problems and has no money to invest, while setting up data retention technology costs around EUR 400,000.
