[October 30, 2009] Eutelsat to provide connectivity for Ireland's National Broadband Scheme via its Tooway service Tweet Oct 30, 2009 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- Satellite Broadband Ireland, a distributor for the Tooway satellite broadband service, is to use the Eutelsat Tooway service to provide rural broadband connectivity under its recently gained contract with 3, the Irish mobile broadband provider which runs the National Broadband Scheme on behalf of the Irish Government, according to Eutelsat. Under the scheme, Tooway's satellite broadband service will be delivered to up to 5% of the 223,000 targeted buildings across rural Ireland. Those qualifying under the scheme will receive Tooway's 3.6 Mb/s broadband service for EUR19.99 per month, following a one-off EUR49.00 installation and hardware charge. 3 will be investing up to EUR223m in the National Broadband Scheme, of which up to EUR79.8m will come from the Irish Government and the EU. The scheme is intended to provide broadband services to designated rural districts covered by the scheme. The Tooway service, delivered by Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL), is based on Eutelsat's satellite coverage, the commercial and infrastructure operating experience of Eutelsat's subsidiary Skylogic and SurfBeam technology developed by ViaSat.
