Finnish Comptel slips into the red Q3 '09

(Nordic Business Report Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) 28 October 2009 - Finnish software group Comptel Oyj (HEL: CTL1V) said today it slipped to a net loss of EUR163m in the third quarter of 2009 from a net profit of EUR1.387bn a year earlier.

Net sales dropped to EUR18.165bn from EUR21.009bn.

In July, Comptel signed a five-year contract worth EUR8.7m to provide mediation and provisioning solutions to an Indian mobile operator. The company booked EUR1.7m of the deal's total value as revenue in the reporting period and expects to book another EUR1m in the fourth quarter.

Operating profit halved to EUR955m from EUR2.43bn.

Pretax profit plunged to EUR268m from EUR2.608bn.

In the first nine months of 2009, Comptel slipped to a net loss of EUR3.722bn from a net profit of EUR4.049bn in the corresponding period last year. Net sales fell to EUR53.277bn from EUR61.688bn. The company slipped to an operating loss of EUR2.115bn from an operating profit of EUR8.525bn and to a pretax loss of EUR2.617bn from a pretax profit of EUR8.245bn.

Comptel expects its net sales and operating result for 2009 to be lower than in the previous year.

"The weakening of markets in Europe since the latter part of last year seems to have halted but there are no clear signs yet of sustained market recovery," Comptel said.
