Roving Networks is the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of the Icon development kit, providing designers a development system for creating 802.11 b/g Wireless LAN enabled products. The Icon development kit enables designers to quickly integrate ultra low power, compact 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi modules based on the G2 Icon firmware. Complimenting Roving Networks wide line of embedded wireless modules and development kits, the Icon firmware and development kit provides a path of integration for G2 Microsystems' single chip Wi-Fi SOC into embedded systems. "Roving Networks has been a valued partner since we released our first Wi-Fi silicon over three years ago," said Geoff Smith, Founder and CEO of G2 Microsystems. "Leveraging Roving's embedded system design expertise and manufacturing capabilities is a natural extension of our partnership and allows us to focus efforts on our low-power, Wi-Fi chip and module business." Roving Networks develops Wi-Fi hardware and software solutions based on the G2 Microsystems Wi-Fi technology. By integrating additional hardware and software functionality to G2's SOC capabilities, Roving Networks provides Wi-Fi solutions for sensors, remote monitoring, cable replacement/serial datacomm, and Internet enabled appliances. Roving Networks sells and distributes both the Icon and Roving firmware for use on the ultra-low power, WiFly GSX surface mount module (RN-131G). This compact 802.11 b/g module includes eight analog sensors, ten general purpose I/Os and a real-time clock for time stamping and wakeup. Data is transferred across the UART, SPI or SDIO interface. The WiFly GSX module has both an on-board chip antenna and U.FL connector for connecting an external antenna.
