Buy,buy baby ! [Khaleej Times, Dubai, United Arab Emirates]

(Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 19--Think GITEX is only reserved for tech-geeks and corporate suits? Think again. This year, Dubai's favourite electronic trade show is broadening its scope by appealing to a surprisingly diverse facet of people, all looking for new sexy and glamorous gadgets from around the world.

Proof that Dubai is slowly pulling its way out of the recession can be seen around every corner as companies reveal slimmer notebooks, stylish hard drives, colourful keyboards and funky phones. At GITEX Shopper, one company will be hosting a gadget fashion show everyday, every two hours for the public and will feature slim beauties with even slimmer electronics. Another retail shop will be giving away 800 laptop notebooks and mobile phones through a raffle draw.

GITEX may just be the epitome of consumer indulgence, but there's something about models mixed with technology that we just can't resist.

Belkin Gadget Glamour In a place as ostentatious as Dubai, it is only fitting that even a geek-fest like GITEX would hop on the fashion bandwagon by revealing their own Gadget Glamour runway complete with a bevy of beauties to showcase the hottest and quirkiest gadgets this side of Sillicon Valley. Electronic powerhouse Belkin is trying something so revolutionary with its show this year that it's sure to have tech-savy fashionistas talking (through their Bluetooth of course). As a lifestyle-oriented brand that provides people with seamless electronics integration in their homes, cars and on the go, Belkin will be offering visitors the opportunity to participate hands-on with various interactive, entertainment booths and installations for the chance to win numerous prizes and retail discount offers across the region. Gone are the days of drab electronics and yawn-worthy promotional stunts. Welcome to the sexy world of tech-chic.

Western Digital Protection comes in many forms (we're not referring to the Mafia here). Western Digital is all about safeguarding our most precious files, from family pictures to our extensive completely and utterly legal music collection . This year for the first time, they will be introducing exclusive show and tell sessions at the exhibition which will allow visitors to interact with experts to reveal the all-imposing question: how does it work? In a world of gigabytes and gadgetry, losing data may be one of the hardest downfalls of technology, but Western Digital is apparently trying to change that, through eco-friendly methods, no less. We assume the tree-huggers will be pleased.

Jumbo Electronics With a name like Jumbo, things automatically tend to be big. So when the retail super giant revealed it would host the biggest GITEX exhibition stand this year, we're expecting (and hoping) the savings to be just as colossal. Jumbo is offering visitors an opportunity to keep one step ahead with the very latest technology, as laptops on sale at the event will be preloaded with Windows 7, the latest operating system from Microsoft, days ahead of its global launch. The new version of Windows will only be available on new laptops sold at GITEX. To top it off, every hour customers will have a chance to win back the value of their purchase and a mobile phone every fifteen minutes. With the purchase of a notebook, incentives include a free multifunction printer and free two-year warranty with every laptop, cash back raffles every hour and buy-one-get-one-free Casio promotions. The 1,000 sq.m Jumbo stand promises to be a goliath this year. Note to visitors: Bring a compass because the odds of getting lost in the maze of super deals and shiny things just stepped up a notch.

Samsung Ultra-Thin Notebook X420 Just when we thought diet fads were a thing of the past, the new Samsung X420's size and weight will have rival notebooks counting their megabytes. Drawing inspiration from the pure symmetry of a clam's shell, the X420's minimalist design features a glossy finish, subtly accentuated by its raised, silver-chrome sides available in three different colors: pearl black, pearl white and titanium silver. Available with Windows 7, X420 features the longest battery life available in its class, with one 6 cell battery delivering up to 9 hours of power to keep you going all day long. The secret behind the X420's exceptional power efficiency is the unique combination of its low energy LED display, optimised processing performance and Samsung's class-leading engineering. If ever there was a piece of technology that fit into the world of modeling, it would be this.

Iomega WHO KNEW STORAGE could look so sexy? When it comes to the world of data protection, the style-savy gurus over at Iomega decided to change things up this season with a new line of sporty, yet highly functional, portable hard drives. The new generation of the Iomega eGo portable hard drive features a new USB 2.0-powered model with superior ruggedness and the broadest suite of bundled data protection software in the industry, all backed with a three-year limited warranty. Available in four different colours and up to 500GB in capacity, the new eGo Hard Drive is the ultimate embodiment of style and function in portable drives today. Available in a variety of colors and capacities: the bright Ruby Red model is available in 250GB, 320GB and 500GB capacities; the sparkling Silver model comes in 320GB; and the Deep Midnight Blue model is available in 320GB. All of the new USB 2.0 eGo Portable Hard Drives receive power from a laptop or computer's USB port so there's no power supply to carry around. And unlike other portable hard drives, the new USB 2.0 eGo Portable Hard Drives ship with a "Y" cable which gives users the flexibility to use two USB ports to power the drive, if needed. And with up to 500GB of capacity, the new eGo drive can store up to 2,000,000 photos, over 9,250 hours of music or 750 hours of video. Proof that a big eGo can translate into even bigger storage, Iomega is finally catering to the growing market of bright-eyed, fresh young professionals who want to merge their love for style and hardware.

Samsung N510 Netbook Listen up gaming freaks, your World of Warcraft just got a little more real (minus the anti-Orc sentiments). The N510's 11.6" non-gloss LED display delivers crisp, clean images and features a proper 16:9 aspect ratio, so the latest HD movies and games look exactly as they were intended, filling the entire screen without any distortion or annoying black bands. With image processing ten times faster than existing netbooks, movies and 3D games are more life-like, sports are delivered in smooth, flowing detail and 3D images almost leap out of the screen. Never have we seen piece of technology tug so deeply on our heartstrings, and although we would never sanction a love between man and machine, sometimes, exceptions must be made.
