Geodesic's Mundu Radio Picked as Finalist for Mobile Excellence Award

Oct 17, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Geodesic, a provider of mobile and desktop solutions for instant messaging, VoIP and Internet radio, announced its Mundu Radio application has been named a finalist in the 2009 Mobile Excellence Awards (MEAs), anawards program in mobile entertainment, media and technology.

Mundu Radio, the company said, was recognized in the Best Mobile Music Application category, which Geodesic said honors the best out of all music content categories combined, including ring tones, library, radio or other music experiences.

Mundu Radio is an Internet radio solution for mobile phones, PDA and Pocket PC handsets that allows access to thousands of Internet radio stations, the company said. It consists of a client-side application that is installed on the handset and allows the user to select and playback streams from existing Internet radio stations. Mundu Radio also consists of a server-side component that manages the personalization of the stations for the user. The company said the Mundu Radio client is available for more than 100 handsets based on J2ME, Symbian Series 60, Windows Mobile and Palm OS platforms.

"We are honored that Mundu Radio has been selected as one of the top music applications out of the hundreds of submissions the MEA Committee received from over 12 countries," said Arvind Venkateswaran, Geodesic's senior vice president and general manager. "Mobile devices have become today's preferred mode of entertainment, and Mundu Radio successfully leverages this knowledge to provide consumers with seamless access to a range of entertainment channels, 24 hours a day, without the need to carry a separate device, or to be within the limited range of FM radio stations." Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges comprised of industry leaders from the mobile and digital entertainment industries and announced at the 2009 Mobile Excellence Awards in Los Angeles on Dec. 7. The judges will score and choose MEA winners based upon strategic initiatives and objectives, impact of technology used, creativity, ease of use and reach, execution and market success.
