Ambient Insight Report: Revenues Jump for Brain Training and Brain Fitness Video Game Applications

Oct 16, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- According to a new report by Ambient Insight, the US consumer demand for technology-based cognitive fitness products, which include the brain games and brain training applications, is growing by a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32.4 percent.

Annual consumer expenditures on these products will reach $61.1 million in 2009.

The report, called "The US Consumer Market for Technology-based Cognitive Learning Products: 2009-2014 Forecast and Analysis," forecasts revenues for four types of cognitive fitness products: cognitive assessments, cognitive and intelligent tutors, mobile brain games, and brain fitness games and applications.

"It's all about value and brand now. The cognitive fitness industry has left the early adoption phase and entered the wide adoption phase," comments Sam S. Adkins, Chief Research Officer. "The customer base for brain games is growing fast and new suppliers are entering the market at a rapid pace." Suppliers have successfully created a new market for brain games that appeal to a large and diverse demographic on two ends of the age spectrum: the elderly and young children. The most significant catalyst in the consumer segment is the interest in brain games coming from the aging population. An interesting trend is the emergence of new brain training products designed for children in the 4-7 age range.

"This report identifies a range of revenue opportunities for suppliers. For example, a vibrant retail reseller channel has emerged in the last two years," adds CEO Tyson Greer. "This distribution channel represents significant revenue opportunities for new suppliers that lack the expertise or capital to develop their own products." The confusion surrounding brain games, brain training, and brain fitness that was prevalent in the early adoption phase of the market has now abated and customers are relatively savvy buyers. Buyers are now more aware of brands and are better informed about the types of products on the market. The competitive landscape is heating up with new and old suppliers competing for brand, revenue, and market share.
