MTN Boosts Ladies AACT With Shs35 MillionOct 16, 2009 (The Monitor/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- When the inaugural East and Central Africa All Africa Challenge Trophy gets underway on Sunday at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante course, turning the home course into a fortress and finishing victorious will be the national ladies team's only worry. The team and regional tournament's financial woes were put to rest yesterday after telecommunications giants MTN Uganda unveiled a Shs35m sponsorship package for the meet that will bring together five countries. Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Zambia are the other countries lined-up to take part in the prestigious 54-hole stroke-play tournament. "It's an achievement to have the first edition of this great tournament here in Uganda and we at MTN, are happy to be associated with it. We have supported golf in Uganda for many years and we know that what we are doing is a good thing in ensuring continuity," MTN Corporate Affairs manager Halima Besisira told a press gathering yesterday. MTN's package will cater for dressing the players, opening and prize giving ceremony, trophies, prizes as well as entertainment. Crane Bank through Kabira Country Club topped up on Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews' financial offer of 7,000 pounds (Shs21m) to cater for the five teams' accommodation and transport. "We are grateful to our official sponsors MTN and the others that have chipped in. This event will go a long way in improving the standards in the region," said regional trustee Monica Ntege. |
