Ladies Launch New Event

Kampala, Oct 15, 2009 (New Vision/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- THE Uganda women golfers umbrella body ULGU will organise the inaugural East and Central Africa Challenge Trophy slated for October 19-21 at the par 72 Kitante course.

"Preparations for this tournament are in high gear and we are looking forward to a great competition," Jolly Karemera, the ULGU president said. Four countries Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi are expected for the event.

This regional event is a prelude to the All Africa Challenge Trophy that will be held in Abuja, Nigeria next year.

"Our team preparations are going on well and we shall field a team of four," Karemera added. "We are hosting it and we want to win it on home turf." Uganda's team comprises of handicap 5 golfer Jaspher Kamukama, h/c 6 Eva Okatch, h/c 9 Harriet Kitaka and h/c 10 Petra Nalwoga. The team will be managed by Karemera.

"Each team will enter four players and we expect the best lady golfers from East Africa and a stiff challenge," Karemera added.

The tournament has received financial support from wireless communication firm MTN Uganda, Royal and Ancient, Crane Bank and Kabira Country Club.

Participants will then turn focus on the Uganda Ladies Open due October 23-25 at the same venue. Last year's winner was Nawa Mellisa from Zambia.
