Chunghwa Telecom Eyeing Mainland Value-added Service Market

BEIJING, Oct 09, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd.plans to march into the value-added service market in Mainland China by its Hami value-added service platform and e-book store, pointed out Shyue-Ching Lu, chairman of the Taiwan-based telecommunications operator.

The company introduced the Hami platform at the end of 2008, and Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL)'s iPhone, Microsoft and Google-platform smartphones all have established their inner Hami platform. In addition, the company predicted that most Hami users would keep using the platform, which would drive the growth of operating revenues from its value-added service.

Moreover, Chunghwa Telecom is now developing smartphone reading software and an e-book downloading platform named Hami bookstore, which will be launched by the end of this year.

Besides, Far Eastone Telecommunications Co., Ltd. and Taiwan Mobile Co., Ltd., the other two Taiwan-headquartered telecoms operators, plan to cooperate with Chinese Mainland peers through value-added businesses. Notably, the cooperation over the Taiwan Straits is currently only limited to the fields like roaming and submarine optical fiber cable.
