'Turkcell delivers data services with Cisco and Openet'(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Turkcell has deployed equipment from Cisco and Openet to provide a charging system for its GPRS mobile data network. The joint service, which went live at Turkcell in June, introduces intelligence into the network to enable the packet inspection, rating and billing of individual customers' mobile data usage. It helps the operator deliver and charge for pre- and post-paid data and next-generation services. With this service, Turkcell is able to provide subscribers with several billing options: in terms of the used application, for combined services or by data bandwidth consumed. Turkcell combined Openet's FusionWorks Convergent Charging platform with the Cisco Enhanced Gateway GPRS Support Node (eGGSN), Cisco Service Control Engine and Cisco Access Register. This combined platform was selected to help prepare Turkcell for a surge in data traffic from the launch of its 3G network in 2009.
