BRIEF: Donate old phones to keep soldiers in contact


TAMPA, Sep 30, 2009 (Tampa Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Hillsborough County Security Services Department is seeking unused and outdated cell phones.

The department is kicking off its second annual Cell Phones For Soldiers drive to help troops that are overseas stay in touch with their families.

There will be drop-off boxes throughout the county for those willing to part with their cell phones.

The phones will be sent to ReCellular, which pays the department for the phones. The proceeds are used to purchase paid calling cards that are sent to soldiers.

The drive will last through Jan. 8.

Drop-off boxes in the area include: -- Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road -- Town 'N Country Commons, 7606 Paula Drive.
