Sprint to launch Samsung Instinct HD

(Corporate IT Update Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Wireless and wireline communications services provider Sprint (NYSE:S) and mobile phone provider Samsung Telecommunications America LLC (Samsung Mobile) announced on Thursday the upcoming availability of Samsung Instinct HD.

According to the company, Samsung Instinct HD, a follow-up to the Samsung Instinct handset, offers an intuitive user interface as well as the high-speed connectivity of Sprint's 3G network (EVDO Rev.A).

The handset offers high-definition 5-megapixel camera and camcorder and TV-out HD connection, allowing photo and video playback on an HD capable auxiliary device, but it does not provide HD playback directly on the handset.

In addition, the new phone features an enhanced web browsing experience, including a full Opera Mobile 9.7 browser, Wi-Fi capabilities, an Ambient Light Sensor and Accelerometer. It also features a Proximity Sensor with haptic feedback.

Beginning on Sunday, customers will be able to purchase Samsung Instinct HD at Best Buy Mobile, Sprint's retail partner. It will then be available on 11 October 2009 in all Sprint company-owned retail channels for USD249.99 with a new two-year service agreement after a USD100 mail-in rebate.

Samsung Telecommunications America is a US-based subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.
