Lockheed Martin heads video intelligence
(United Press International Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A team led by Lockheed Martin won a $29 million contract from the U.S. Joint Forces Command for a new system employing full-motion video for the battlefield.
Lockheed Martin, Harris Corp. and NetApp will design and integrate a new system, Valiant Angel, which applies advanced sports broadcasting technology to help battlefield commanders collect and exploit full-motion video.
The system will allow commanders to collect video data from manned and unmanned aircraft and ground-based sensors to have access to real-time and archived video.
"Valiant Angel will help make video an even more decisive advantage for our forces in virtually any scenario," said Dan Rice, Lockheed Martin vice president for spatial solutions.
Valiant Angel will categorize video by keyword, geographic region and other categories, such as shape and color, allowing commanders to establish alerts and search queries for specific targets.
"With Valiant Angel, commanders will be able to quickly find the video they need, package it into an actionable intelligence report, and share it securely with the front-line troops who need it," said Rice.
