Gilat deploys Broadband Satellite Internet Service in Kazakhstan


Sep 23, 2009 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd (Nasdaq:GILT) announced on Tuesday the successful deployment of a broadband satellite Internet service for passengers of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway company of Kazakhstan.

This is reportedly the first satellite-based broadband service for train passengers in the region.

The equipment installation was managed by ASTEL, a service provider in Kazakhstan.


Gilat's VSAT platform was installed on the Tulpar, the railway's fastest train which serves the 1,300 km route between Almaty and the capital city of Astana, allowing passengers onboard to use the free broadband Internet service.

Deployment of the satellite Internet service is planned on additional trains.

Gilat Satellite Networks is provider of products and services for satellite-based communications networks.
