[September 19, 2009] Cloakware Launches OMA Digital Rights Management Security Solution Tweet Sep 18, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Cloakware, an Irdeto Group company that provides software solutions for securing business and digital assets, announced a new Open Mobile Alliance (OMA)-compliant Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution for the secure delivery of digital content across the Android open source platform. Cloakware said the solution, the OMA DRM 1.0 Client for Google's Android Operating System, is a natural expansion of the company's Windows Mobile offering and was developed in response to the groundswell of Android-supported mobile devices, including smartphones, netbooks, and other consumer electronics devices on the market. A recent report from Strategy Analytics forecasts that Android will be the operating system of choice for 12 percent of smartphones by 2012, so device manufacturers, application developers and wireless carriers must implement a security approach now to mitigate the risks and vulnerabilities associated with open source technology. "The release of Cloakware's OMA DRM 1.0 Client for Android gives device manufacturers and their customers an edge in delivering secure content through an operating system that is becoming a new content ecosystem," said David Canellos, senior VP of sales and marketing for Irdeto. "By leveraging Cloakware's content and application security expertise in the development of the Android solution, we are able to meet the security requirements for carriers and content providers alike and are positioned to fully support a range of Android devices used in the broadcast, cable, gaming and motion picture industries." To accomplish this, Cloakware's OMA DRM 1.0 Client for Android features the OMA Content Ingestion Agent, which processes all secure content and licenses similar to Android's normal file download process. Additionally, the client features the OMA DRM Engine, which responds to requests by device applications for access to OMA secure content for rendering, file management, or peer-to-peer sharing. The OMA DRM Engine checks for licenses, evaluates the rights language of the license and decrypts the content for the application, working in conjunction with Android software.
