[September 18, 2009] Avaya granted court approval in US and Canada for Nortel Enterprise Solutions purchase Tweet (EquityBites Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Business communications solutions provider Avaya said on Wednesday that it has been granted court approval in the US and Canada to acquire the Enterprise Solutions business of Canadian telecoms equipment maker Nortel Networks. This clearance relates to the operations of Nortel Enterprise Solutions in North America, the Caribbean, Latin America and Asia. Avaya has also agreed to acquire Nortel's Enterprise Solutions business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Avaya will pay USD900m in cash and contribute USD15m to an employee retention programme. Completion of the deal remains subject to court approvals in France and Israel, as well as employee consultation processes and regulatory clearance. Nortel filed for bankruptcy protection in January.
