Voxbone adds HD voice support to iNum service(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Voxbone's geographically-independent number service, iNum, now supports high-definition (HD) voice, the provider of worldwide telephone numbers announced on Tuesday. According to the company, as long as both endpoints are HD-enabled, calls to iNum numbers will convey a sound quality that surpasses traditional circuit-switched telephony. Since a high-definition voice signal cannot fit through the frequency constraints of Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), the HD benefit will be limited to end-to-end IP calls. However, most calls should be able to support HD voice, as most iNum traffic is transmitted by service providers that have migrated to IP or begun operation as VoIP carriers. Voxbone said it is beginning its HD support with the wideband G.722 codec and plans to add other codecs in Q4 2009. No pricing details were disclosed.
