Green Dot Leverages Verimatrix's DVB Broadcast Content Security Solution on DVB-T NetworkSep 11, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Verimatrix, a company that provides pay-TV networks, announced a customer deployment of its Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for DVB by Green Dot Limited, a wireless ISP in the twin-island Caribbean republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Green Dot is extending its carrier-class infrastructure to deliver digital TV via a DVB-T wireless network for complete coverage on both islands, the company said. To reduce obstacles for subscribers, Green Dot noted, it chose to initially launch the digital TV service without an IP-based return path on the network, according to a release. VCAS for DVB, designed to handle a range of network topologies including terrestrial broadcast-only networks, enabled Green Dot to quickly deploy the service with a removable security component for content. The basic digital TV subscription will offer more than 40 standard definition channels, the company said, and the operator has plans to attract 100,000 subscribers over the next three years. "Verimatrix offers a progressive approach to content security for DVB networks that has enabled us to launch a compelling digital TV service today, while creating a cost-effective upgrade path for our network and our subscribers," said Ketan Patel, managing director of Green Dot Limited. "The team is extremely supportive and knowledgeable about this market and we are confident that Verimatrix is the right content security partner to help grow our subscriber and revenue base." "We are excited about working with Green Dot on this one-way digital TV deployment. It is market validation that our flexible content security solution for broadcast-only networks is a viable alternative to legacy approaches," said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix.
