'French online retail audience grows by 21% in a year - study'
(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Over two-thirds of French internet users visited an online retail site in July, according to a study by comScore which excludes access from public computers, PDAs or mobile phones. The country's online retail audience grew by 21 percent in one year to reach 26.7 million in July, compared to 5 percent average growth in Europe. France's fastest growing e-commerce site, by visitors, was affordable fashion retailer Kiabi (133%), followed by Apple (92%), CDiscount.com (76%), Rue du Commerce (72%) and Amazon (59%). Groupe PPR, owner of LaRedoute and Fnac Sites, as well as Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci brands, ranked as the top French retail property in July 2009 with 12.4 million visitors. Groupe PriceMinister ranked second with 12.3 million visitors, followed by Otto Gruppe (8.9 million visitors), Amazon Sites (7.6 million visitors), and CDiscount.com (7.3 million visitors). "While clothing remains the most popular category for online shoppers in France, growth has been occurring across all retail sectors, which suggests that consumers are continuing to shift to the online channel for shopping. As the economy rebounds and people begin to spend more freely, the French e-commerce market should be poised for strong growth", said Delphine Gatignol, comScore business development manager for France.
