FDA probe continues at Mylan plantAug 06, 2009 (The Dominion Post - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's probe of Mylan Inc.'s quality control practices at its Morgantown plant may take awhile longer -- but the FDA is vague on just how long. "The Mylan investigation should be completed towards the end of the next few weeks," Press Officer Christopher Kelly said in a statement e-mailed to The Dominion Post. He provided no other comment. Michael Laffin, of Mylan's Global Public Affairs, did not respond to requests for comment left at his office and on his cell phone. The FDA visited the Mylan plant July 28 following news reports that Mylan had conducted an internal investigation of workers allegedly overriding and ignoring computergenerated safety protocols. Mylan Inc. Chairman and CEO Robert J. Coury attempted late last week to reconcile contradictions between his statements and those of the FDA regarding the probe. He had said in a release that the FDA concluded that the accusations in the reports were unfounded and that a minor Standard Operating Procedures deviation had existed, was fully investigated, and all corrective actions were fully implemented. He stood by that statement in an address to investors July 30. But since the FDA had contradicted the release, he also told investors, "We absolutely respect the agency's independent processes, and we appreciate their speed and diligence." Because Coury wanted to "respect the rest of the FDA processes" as the probe continues, he told investors he would accept no questions from them regarding the matter. Mylan has released no new statements following the FDA's update. To see more of The Dominion Post or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.dominionpost.com/.
