Congressman Murphy Hosted Successful Tele-Townhall With Over 8,000 20th District Residents

Aug 01, 2009 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- Washington, DC - On Wednesday evening, Congressman Scott Murphy hosted his first tele-town hall meeting where over 8,000 of his constituents participated to discuss a variety of issues directly with the Congressman including health care, economic recovery and job creation.

"My first tele-town hall event was a huge success. I am happy to have spoken with over 8,000 residents of the 20th District," said Rep. Murphy. "Getting input from my constituents is incredibly important to me and this was a great way to be able to communicate while I'm working from Washington." As Congressman Murphy works to stabilize the economy and reform health care, he values the opportunity to update his constituents on his work and to hear their concerns about current issues. The tele-town hall provided a forum for Congressman Murphy to directly communicate with many more residents than in a traditional town hall setting.

"Tonight's meeting was a great way to let residents know what I've been working on and to hear their concerns directly," said Rep. Murphy. "As we work to stabilize our economy and reform our health care system it is essential that I get feedback from the people I represent, and I encourage them to contact me any time at any of my offices. I'll be spending the next month traveling across the district continuing the dialogue with the people of the 20th District." The tele-town hall is a continuation of Congressman Murphy's commitment to transparency and his pledge to make himself available to all residents of the 20th District. In his first three months he has traveled across the district meeting with constituents and community leaders so as to best represent the 20th District.
