Market for e-books grows to US$502 in JapanTOKYO, Jul 9, 2009 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) -- The market for electronic books in Japan expanded by about 30 per cent to 46.4 billion yen (US$502.04 million) in the year ended March 31, driven by the popularity of comics read on cellular phones, according to research firm IMPRESS R&D. Sales of e-books for cell phones surged 42 per cent to 40.2 billion yen. * Comics, which accounted for 82 per cent of this tally, rose more than 40 per cent. * The market for e-books read on personal computers slipped roughly 14 per cent to 6.2 billion yen, the first decline since tracking of comparable data began in 2002.
