[July 09, 2009] Aus has taken steps to protect Indian students, says envoy Tweet Hyderabad, Jul 08, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- In the wake of alleged racist attacks Down Under, the Australian High Commissioner to India Wednesday said the government there has taken several measures to provide security to Indian students. High Commissioner John McCarthy, in a press conference with D Sridhar Babu, Minister for NRI Affairs in India?s southern state of Andhra Pradesh, said Australian Government was concerned over the attacks on Indians and that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has taken the issue seriously. ?The Australian government is working closely with the state authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and instill confidence among overseas students,? he said. Notwithstanding the attacks on overseas students, Australia is a safe and secure country but there are places with high rate of crime, the High Commissioner said. A high-level Australian delegation, which is currently on a visit to India, would come to Hyderabad tomorrow to meet students and their parents.
